Duff was remanded into custody with a court date set for Monday, January 20, in St. Albert.

At this time, Whitecourt RCMP says the investigation is still ongoing.

Earlier today, (Wednesday, January 15) Whitecourt RCMP, with help from multiple other detachments, apprehended a suspect who fled from officers.

Mounties attempted to perform a traffic stop on a “suspicious vehicle” parked on the roadside in Whitecourt.

The vehicle then fled, passing through Mayerthorpe RCMP jurisdiction and then into Evansburg, before being stopped by a spike belt.

Once stopped, the driver of the “suspicious vehicle” then fled on foot into the woods, along a stretch of Highway 16, between Range Road 91 and the Wildwood area.

A number of RCMP services and detachments were then dispatched to help locate the suspect.

That included RCMP officers from Whitecourt, Mayerthorpe, Evansburg and Edson, along with the Whitecourt General Investigation Services (GIS), Whitecourt Traffic Services, Police Dog Services (PDS), the Western Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (WAD CRU), Provincial Crime Reduction Team (CRT), RCMP Air Services, and Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPASS) more commonly known as drones.

As a result of pooling all these resources together and “exceptional teamwork from all assisting units” the suspect driving the “suspicious vehicle” was arrested without incident.

More updates are expected.

In the release, RCMP also thanked the public for their cooperation and understanding during a time of increased police presence.
