Hockey, curling, Wolves, ski hills this weekend

Storm

The Grande Prairie Storm will host Devon in a pair of games this weekend.

Face-off will be 7 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday.

The Storm are second in the North Division with 41 points, a point up on Lloydminster and nine points back of Whitecourt, but with three games in hand on both.

The expansion Extreme is last in the North Division with 20 points.

The Wolverines are home to Calgary Saturday night, while the Bobcats are in Camrose.

NWJHL

There are four games in the Northwest Junior Hockey League Friday.

The Wheat Kings will be in Sexsmith, La Crete in Fairview, Beaverlodge in Fort St. John and Peace River in Dawson Creek.

Saturday, Beaverlodge at the Wheat Kings, Sexsmith in Dawson Creek, Fort St. John in Fairview and La Crete in Peace River.

All those games will start at 8 p.m.

The NWJHL All-Star Game will be played Sunday in Sexsmith. Face-off at 3 p.m. between the North/South and East/West Divisions.

NPHL

The North Peace Hockey League resumes Saturday with Dawson Creek in High Prairie, Grande Prairie in Fort St. John, Manning in Valleyview and Spirit River in Fox Creek.

All those games start at 8:30.

Sunday, Fox Creek in Falher starts at 3 p.m.

Thursday night, Spirit River won 5-1 in Grande Prairie and Fort St. John won 7-5 in Dawson Creek.

Curling

The last stop for the Peace Curling Tour is the Grande Prairie Cash Spiel.

It will start Friday and run through Sunday.

The Tour Championship takes place in Sexsmith January 31 to February 2.

Wolves

Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves basketball hosts Keyano College Friday at 6 and 8 p.m. and Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m.

Volleyball visits Keyano College the same days and times.

Futsal starts this weekend in Lac La Biche.

The Wolves women’s team plays Keyano College at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Lakeland at 11:15 a.m. and Portage College at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and NAIT at 9:15 a.m. and The King’s University at 1:45 p.m. Sunday.

The men’s team plays Keyano College at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Lakeland at 10 a.m. and Portage College at 5 p.m. Saturday and NAIT at 10:30 a.m. and The King’s University at 1:45 p.m. on Sunday.

Ski Hills

Nitehawk ski hill is also open Friday from 5:30 to 9:30, 11-5 Saturday and Sunday.

The Tube Zone will be open from 5-7 and 7:30-9:30 Friday, noon-2 and 2:30 to 4:30 Saturday and Sunday.

Whispering Pines Ski Hill is open Saturday and Sunday from 10-4 p.m. Rental shop opens at 9 a.m.

Fairview Ski Hill is open from 6 11-5 Saturday and Sunday.

Spring Lake Ski Hill near Hythe is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Misery Mountain is open from 4-9 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Powder King is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Mondays and 9-3:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
