Snowfall Warning

Up to 30 cm of snow in Grande Prairie region, travel not recommended

Jan 31, 2025 | 6:34 AM

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning… which should be heavily considered if you plan on travelling today (Friday January, 31).

The national weather office is calling for amounts of anywhere between 15 – 30 cm of snow in Grande Prairie and the surrounding area, pushing east down to Edmonton and northeast towards Fort McMurray, and south towards Grande Cache/Hinton/Edson/Jasper.

Snow is expected to intensify in the morning and will continue throughout the night. The snow will taper off Saturday morning.

Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow and surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

Travel is not being recommended. Please consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Highways towards the Edmonton area, northeast to Fort McMurray, and south to Grande Cache/Hinton/Edson/Jasper, will be affected by this snowfall warning.

Also, take frequent breaks and avoid strain when clearing/shovelling snow.
