“State-of-the-art” Valleyview EMS station officially open

A new EMS station officially opened today, (Thursday, February 6) in Valleyview.

Construction for this project was first completed in 2023, with the new three-bay facility having the amenities to store two ambulances; one with Advanced Life Support and one with Basic Life Support.

The new station can also host twelve full-time staff, thanks to what AHS called “comfortable and functional” staff areas, including break spaces and sleeping quarters.

AHS said this will “ensure they (EMS) can deliver prompt, effective, high-quality emergency medical care.”

Rob Barone, Associate Executive Director of the AHS North Zone added “the new facility provides an essential hub for EMS crews to start and end their shifts, restock ambulances, and attend required training sessions, without drawing them away from the Valleyview area.”

The $4.1 million facility was funded entirely by the province, as that was a need for the area identified by the Alberta Government, according to provincial Health Minister Adriana Lagrange.

MLA for Central Peace Notley and Minister of Forest and Parks, Todd Lowen was at the grand opening and reiterated Lagrange’s message saying “we know the community has been waiting for this EMS station, we want residents to know we are listening.”

Lowen added that this “shows our (provincial government’s) commitment to providing high-quality healthcare throughout our province.”

This new “state-of-the-art” facility is located on the Valleyview Health Centre grounds, as previously Valleyview EMS operated out of the town’s Fire Department.
