Black History Month in Canada
February marks Black History Month in Canada.
Locally, the Grande Prairie Intercultural Association is actioning multiple events this month in support.
That included an opening ceremony and reception that ran earlier in the month; A local art exhibit curated by local black artists is on display at the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie until the end of the month, and a Gala event is also planned to run on March 1.
For Canada, this year’s BHM theme is “Black Legacy and Leadership: Celebrating Canadian History and Uplifting Future Generations” which was chosen to “underscore black Canadians having a rightful place in the nation’s narrative.”
