One suspect arrested after armed home break and enter

RCMP in McLennan say an armed home invasion happened at a residence in the community of Girouxville in the early morning hours of Wednesday February 12.

At approximately 2:15 a.m. Mounties were notified of a break and enter at a home on 52 Avenue, and attended the scene. Two adult victims were found with non-life threatening injuries.

Emergency medical services assessed the two people. No others were inside the home at the time of the incident.

Through the course of police investigation, RCMP learned four masked suspects, three males and a female, entered the home armed with a firearm and other weapons and injured the homes occupants. The suspects stole several items inside the home and two vehicles belonging to the homeowners.

An RCMP member was able to locate the stolen vehicles, plus a third vehicle. They attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicles, which then split up.

A police pursuit then ensued and Mounties successfully deployed a tire deflation device on one of the three vehicles.

Forty-one-year-old Brandon Kyle Neil of the MD of Smoky River was arrested without further incident.

Neil has been charged with:

• Break and enter to a residence
• Being unlawfully in a dwelling house
• Theft under $5,000
• Flight from police
• Possession of methamphetamine
• Possession of break-in instruments
• Forcible confinement (X2)
• Assault with a weapon causing bodily harm, and assault

Neil was remanded into police custody after appearing before a Justice of the Peace. His court date is set for February 24, 2025, in Peace River.

The two stolen vehicles that have yet to be recovered by RCMP are described as:

• Vehicle #1 – 2008 Chevorlet Silverado, black, with an Alberta license plate of BXM5804
• Vehicle #2 – 2005 Chevorlet Silverado, black, with an Alberta license plate of CSS0682
