Extreme Cold Warning in effect

Dec 26, 2017 | 6:13 AM

An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect for the Grande Prairie region.

Environment Canada says extremely cold temperatures are expected over most of central and northern Alberta today and tonight. This weather pattern is expected to stick around for the remainder of the week.

Wind chills are expected in the minus 40’s this morning and minus 30’s this afternoon, tonight and tomorrow.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.

People should watch for cold related symptoms like shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.

And Environment Canada reminds us if it’s too cold for people to stay outside, it’s too cold for pets to stay outside.
