Grande Prairie couple publishes children’s book: Rosie the Unicorn Does Gymnastics

Feb 23, 2025 | 7:00 AM

A Grande Prairie couple has written a new children’s book.

Rosie the Unicorn Does Gymnastics, written by Marc and Lisa Laferriere with illustrations by Mariana Ostanik follows the titular character and her friend as they demonstrate the importance of friendship and never giving up.

Marc Laferriere says the book was based on bedtime stories he would say to their children.

“It was during one of these [bedtime stories] that I came up with the Rosie the Unicorn character,” Marc says. “They just really liked her, and they were in gymnastics at the time, and I just made that story, and it became their favourite. So, we decided to actually make a real book about it.”

He says he is very excited to have the book become a reality.

“It was very cool to see the first physical copy of it,” he says.” It wasn’t anything we planned on doing. We just kept doing the next step and it ended up here. We’ve had really good feedback so far about it.”

Lisa Laferriere says the book is currently only available for purchase on Amazon.

“Right now, it is only available online, mainly just because it’s so knew,” she says. “We are hoping to connect with local bookstores and local retailers to hopefully have it being sold locally in stores as well.”

The Laferriere’s say more books starring Rosie the Unicorn are planned for release later this year.
