The Alberta Government says it’s “underscoring its dedication to meeting the health care needs of communities across the province,” after a recent announcement.

On Tuesday, February 25, the province announced that its La Crete Maternity and Community Health Centre project is now entering its construction phase.

In the release, the province said this project was first started in 2021, with the goal of “enhancing access to maternal health and advanced ambulatory care.”

MLA for Peace River, Dan Williams said he is pleased to see this project enter its construction phase, with the newly renovated facility expected to open sometime in 2027.

Over three years the province will “invest” $80 million into the facility to provide amenities like a birthing centre, midwifery program, advanced ambulatory care and a two-vehicle ambulance bay; to improve emergency services for its roughly 9,200 people the facility services.

The province says in total, the project will cost the province $86 million.
