"Never experienced a deficit"

2025 Grande Prairie Street Performers Festival still a possibility

Mar 5, 2025 | 1:47 PM

The Grande Prairie International Street Performer Festival announced Saturday, March 1, that the 2024 edition would be the last.

Founder of the festival, Wayne Ayling says he made the decision to cancel the event this year and moving forward; “I turn 70 years old this summer and it is time for me to officially retire from many of my community commitments.”

However, Ayling says there’s still a chance for the festival to return if any interested individuals or parties are willing to take over operations.

“People can contact me if they wish, (to take over operations) they could leave a message on the Grande Prairie International Street Performers Festival Association Facebook page.”

Over the event’s 24-year history, the festival has been very successful and received support from City Council.

“The Street Performers Festival has never experienced a deficit, we did ask the City for funding so we could balance our budget, that funding was granted and we are very grateful for the support from the City.”

Anyone interested in taking over the operations of the Grande Prairie International Street Performers Festival can reach out to the organization through social media.
