AJHL, NWJHL, and NPHL from the weekend

Hockey leagues around the Peace Region are gearing up or already well into playoff season.

Grande Prairie Storm

The AJHL’s Grande Prairie Storm won both games at home over the weekend.

The Storm hosted the Fort McMurray Oil Barons, winning 5-1 Friday night and 6-2 on Saturday evening.

Grande Prairie sits second in the North Division and has clinched a playoff position.

Their next game is Tuesday down in Drayton Valley taking on the Thunder.

Strike Group North West Junior Hockey League

Divisional Finals have decided who will be playing in this year’s NWJHL’s League Championship.

In the Northern Express North/South Division, the La Crete Lumber Barons took the best-of-seven series in six games against the Beaverlodge Blades. The two teams played Saturday in La Crete, where the Lumber Barons won 7-1.

The Lumber Barons will meet the Fort St. John Huskies in the League Championship series, after sweeping the Caliber Energy East/West Division in four games over the Dawson Creek Kodiaks.

The league has not announced the schedule yet, but it will be updated on their website when it becomes available.

North Peace Hockey League – Senior Men’s

The Peace Region’s senior men’s hockey league is in playoff action, with the Campbell Cup Finals underway.

The Falher Pirates won the West Division over the Dawson Creek Kodiaks in five games.

The Manning Comets won the East Division in seven games over the Spirit River Rangers on Friday night, winning 6-1 to advance to the finals.

The Comets and Pirates met on Sunday night in Manning, where the home team took the first game with a 4-0 shutout.

The two meet again on Wednesday, March 12 in Falher, puck drop is 8:30 p.m.
