Storm playoffs resume, tarp auction gala, stick curling, Whispering Pines open this weekend

Storm

The Storm visit Whitecourt Friday to open Round 2 of the AJHL playoffs.

Game 2 will also be played in Whitecourt on Saturday.

Face-of time for both will be 7 p.m.

Grande Prairie advanced to the second round after a four game sweep of Lloydminster in Round 1.

The Wolverines eliminated Fort McMurray in five games in the opening round.

In the regular season, the Storm and Whitecourt were the top two teams in the North division, splitting their season series three games apiece.

Junior B Provincials

The Fort St. John Huskies of the Northwest Junior Hockey League are playing at Junior B Provincials in Morinville.

The Huskies are 1-1 after losing to Morinville 1-0 in their first game on Wednesday, then beating a team from Calgary 5-1 on Thursday.

The Huskies are playing Wainwright in Friday then take on Sherwood Park on Saturday.

Gala and Tarp Auction

The Stompede Association will host its 2025 WPCA Tarp Auction Gala and Fundraiser Saturday at the TARA Centre in Evergreen Park.

The gala will support the Unbridled program at PARDS that helps young people develop skills to deal with trauma.

This year’s Stompede is set for May 28 to June 1.

Stick Curling

The Grande Prairie Curling Centre is hosting the Canadian Stick Curling Championship.

Games will continue Friday and Saturday.

Skiing

There is one more chance for skiers and snowboarders to get out this weekend.

Whispering Pines is open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The rental shop will open at 9 a.m.

This will be the last weekend of the season.

Lift tickets will be free.
