Fire department urges caution when cooking Christmas dinner

Dec 23, 2017 | 7:38 AM

As we celebrate the holiday season, the local fire department is reminding us to be safe while cooking those Christmas meals.

City Fire Marshall James Kostuk says the first thing is to make sure you have a working smoke alarm.

“Whenever you’re doing any cooking, you want to make sure that if you’re using the oven you’re using a timer so that you don’t forget about your food,” he added.

Kostuk also says if you’re doing any frying or grilling be sure not to walk away from what you’re cooking.

“We’ve seen numerous fires in the city of Grande Prairie throughout the year and cooking is still one of the number one causes of fire.”

“We just want people to have enjoyable holidays and enjoy your time with friends and family, but make sure that you’re being safe.”
