Two players from Grande Prairie are part of a national hockey champion.

Defender Madeline Renfree and forward Reanna Loberg were both with the Edmonton Junior Oilers U18 AAA team that won the Esso Cup on Sunday, April 27.

The Oilers beat a team from Saskatoon 7-3 in the final, scoring all seven of their goals in the first two periods.

Both played minor hockey with the Grande Prairie Knights and Peace Country Female Athletic Club Storm.

Loberg is in her first year with the Oilers. Renfree is in her second season with the Oilers after playing for a team in Red Deer for a year.

Both will move on to university hockey next season.

Loberg will be playing for Union College, an NCAA Division 1 school based in New York state.

Renfree will join three of her Oilers teammates at the University of New Brunswick for the upcoming USports season.
