Wildfire in Morgan’s Mountain area says County of Grande Prairie

UPDATE 3: The county says the fire is now under control. Fire crews will continue working on hot spots on Sunday.

UPDATE 2: The County of Grande Prairie says the fire is now being held.

Range Road 50 is open again, but there are traffic restrictions at the Morgan’s Mountain south entrance.

The county adds that a fire break has been established along the south end of the fire.

The cause is under investigation.

County fire crews will stay on site until dark and return tomorrow to check the fire and look for hotspots.

UPDATE 1: The County of Grande Prairie says the fire has led to the evacuation of three homes. It did not say how many people have been impacted,

No homes have burned, but some sheds and an RV were lost to the blaze.

No further spread is expected and crews are continuing work on containing the fire.

ORIGINAL STORY: The County of Grande Prairie says there is a wildfire in the Morgan’s Mountain area.

The county’s Regional Fire Service and Alberta Wildfire crews are fighting the blaze.

The county is asking people to avoid the area west of Range Road 50 between Township Roads 742 and 744. It is closed because of fire fighting work in the area.
