Fire Ban

City of Grande Prairie issues Fire Ban

May 5, 2025 | 10:48 AM

A fire ban is now in effect for the City of Grande Prairie.

Effective 9:00 a.m. Monday, May 5, the ban includes the City and annexed rural areas.

The ban was prompted due to extreme fire conditions like high heat, dry vegetation, and wind.

Per the ban, all open burning, as well as burn barrels, residential fire pits, wood campfires in parks or public lands, and fireworks are expressly prohibited.

Activities still permitted include propane and natural gas appliances like barbecues and fire pits, indoor wood fireplaces, wood pellet smokers and barbecues, and open flame oil devices.

City of Grande Prairie Fire Department Fire Marshall Chris Renyk says the ban is a public safety measure and they are asking all residents to exercise caution while taking proactive steps to keep our region safe from wildfires.

The ban will remain in effect until conditions improve.
