City of Grande Prairie launches FireSmart Home Assessment Program

May 7, 2025 | 12:17 PM

The City of Grande Prairie is launching a free FireSmart Home Assessment Program to help residents reduce the risk of wildfire damage to their properties.

Funded by a grant from the Forest Resource Improvement Association of Alberta, the program is available between May and October for 200 homes in neighbourhoods that border on public wildland interface areas.

Residents can request the assessment with a certified Home Ignition Zone specialist to visit the property and provided a report with recommendations on how to improve the home’s wildfire readiness.

Everyone who requests and completes the assessment is entered to win a chainsaw and safety kit.
