Leadership changes at Grouard-McLennan Archdiocese

May 14, 2025 | 6:00 AM

Not long after the world’s Catholics got a new leader in Pope Leo XIV, Catholics in the Peace will be getting some new leadership as well.

Bishop Charles Duval was named a Coadjutor Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Grouard-McLennan earlier this year by Pope Francis. He had been serving as the pastor at St. Joe’s.

An ordination ceremony is set for tonight (Wednesday, May 14) at St. Joe’s.

Duval will act as an assistant to current Archbishop Gerard Pettipass.

Pettipass says he will step down when he reaches the mandatory retirement age of 75 this fall or when his health no longer allows him to continue in the role.

Duval would then replace Pettipass as the Archbishop of Grouard-McLennan.
