Peace Wapiti Academy and Ecole Heritage projects “fast-tracked”

Two school construction projects in the Peace, are being fast-tracked as part of a provincial government initiative.

Last fall, the province shared the School Construction Accelerator Program to speed up construction and renovations for 132 projects through an $8.6 billion investment.

Fahler’s Conseil Scolaire du Nord-Ouest (CSNO) Ecole Heritage renovation and Peace Wapiti Public School Division’s new Peace Wapiti Academy projects are now two of the most recent batch of projects being fast-tracked

Shovels will now break ground in Fahler as that project has moved to the construction phase, while the new Peace Wapiti Academy has moved on from planning to designing.

In a release, PWPSD Deputy Superintendent Darren Young said; “We are thrilled to see this school capital project advance to the Design stage. Throughout the Planning stage, we collaborated closely with our school community and the County of Grande Prairie, and we are eager to continue this positive momentum.”

He added that with a new facility, the district could address “enrollment and space challenges” it currently faces.

Both Fahler and PWPSD fast-trackings were done alongside nine other projects, with the province saying in total, “the 11 projects will create more than 8,000 new and updated student spaces.”

Provincially, the Alberta government says this entire initiative will benefit 19 school boards by building “50 new modular classrooms and relocate 19 others to provide more than 1,650 new and relocated student spaces in some of Alberta’s fastest-growing communities.”
