City of Grande Prairie rescinds Fire Ban to Fire Restriction

May 22, 2025 | 11:29 AM

The City of Grande Prairie fire ban has been downgraded to a fire restriction.

Effective 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 22, the ban has been rescinded for all areas of the city due to improved, but still dry conditions.

Per the restriction, all open burning of any kind remains prohibited, along with burn barrels, fire pits and safe wood campfires.

Barbecues and other propane or natural gas appliances are once again permitted, as are indoor wood fireplaces and fire pits with spark arrested or a screen.

Grande Prairie Fire Department Fire Marshall Chris Renyk is asking all residents to exercise caution, as conditions are still dry and wildfire risk remains elevated.

The fire ban for the County of Grande Prairie has also been downgraded to a fire restriction.
