“Shell” Sheldon Strogan – August 07, 1959 – May 22, 2025, passed away peacefully at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital (GPRH), Grande Prairie, Alberta on Thursday May 22, 2025, after a lengthy illness with his girlfriend, Brenda Swan, at his side. Sheldon Harold Stogran was born in Abitibi, Quebec on August 7th, 1959, to Pagie and Sylvester (Stogy) Stogran. He was predeceased by his mother and father Pagie and Stogy Stogran. Shell is survived by his siblings, Wade Stogran (Kathy), Pat Stogran (Trish), and Kc Stogran (Debbie). Shell will be remembered with love by his nieces and nephews: Syrus Stogran (Marina), Matthew Stogran, Melissa Baker (Darren), Molly Stogran (Dan Anderson), Dylan Stogran, and Bernadette LeBoeuf (Jean-Benoit Deschamps).
Shell leaves behind a huge cadre of friends, due in part to his changing careers and locations. Moving with his family from Quebec to B.C. in elementary school, Shell grew up primarily in Richmond where he became a member of the Army Cadet Corps and made some lifelong friends. While living in Richmond and later Vancouver, he started his training as a mechanic.
After his first job on the fishing boats of Steveston, Shell worked as a mechanic in Vancouver, then Brenda Mines in Peachland and Island Copper in Port Hardy. He eventually located in Grande Prairie for the remainder of his life, where he worked on machinery in the logging industry and oil fields, before turning his attention to industrial machinery.
Many people also knew Shell as an avid motorcyclist and motorcycle mechanic. His love of animals was always a significant part of his character; from having a pet crow that he “rescued” as a child, to his beloved companion and partner in crime Sadie, his soulmate English Bull Terrier.
The family wishes to thank Shell’s younger brother Kc and Brenda Swan for their months of support and care. We would also like to thank the staff at Grande Prairie Regional Hospital for their exceptional care and understanding, and the staff at the Palliative and Complex Care Teams, and Home Care.
Shell, we will always love you and think of you with the fondest of memories. Rest in Peace brother; Wade, Kathy, Pat, Trish, Kc and Debbie.
Cremation has taken place. As per Shell’s expressed wishes, there will be no public service and his ashes will be taken to Port Hardy. The family will have their own private service at a later date. In lieu of a memorial, please make a donation to Bandaged Paws Animal Rescue Association, In The Woods Animal Rescue, or the charity of your choice.
