Everyone in the affected area should prepare for a possible evacuation

Gather pets, important documents, medication, enough food, water and supplies for at least three days make sure you have enough fuel in your vehicle

According to Alberta Wildfire, wildfire SWF076 was detected Sunday afternoon and is located about 8 km north of Swan Hills and 5 km west of highway 33. This wildfire is currently classified as out of control and estimated to be 1,606 hectares (ha).

A night-vision equipped helicopter, firefighters and three heavy equipment groups worked through the night to contain the southern side of the fire. Water skimming airtankers are working on the fire Monday morning. Firefighters, helicopters and the heavy equipment groups will continue to work on containment Monday. A wildland unban interface crew will be joining firefighters to do assessments in the Swan Hills area Monday.

Officials say the wildfire danger is extreme due to hot, dry and windy conditions.

Residents of the area are asked to avoid all outdoor activities that have the potential to spark a fire, as a fire can easily ignite and grow out of control in these conditions.
