Sod turning for new Ken Sargent House set for Thursday

May 29, 2025 | 6:00 AM

A sod turning ceremony will take place this afternoon (Thursday, May 29) for a new facility meant to provide a home-away-from-home for patients being treated at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital.

The new Ken Sargent House will have 21 suites where people can stay at a cost lower than the going rate.

It will be located south of the hospital near the traffic circle. Proponents hope it will be finished in 2026.

It was named after Sargent, after he made a $2 million donation.

Organizers of the ceremony say “regional leaders and project partners” will all take part.

It is set for 2 p.m. at the site of the new building.
