Environment Canada issues weather watches, statements

May 29, 2025 | 4:14 PM

The heat warnings remain in place for much of Alberta. The heat is supposed to end today (Thursday, May 29).

Environment Canada has also issued a special air quality statement for the County of Grande Prairie because of the wildfire smoke coming in from B.C.

The Peace Air Shed Zone Association says the Air Quality Health Index reached the high range in Beaverlodge and Grande Prairie Thursday afternoon.

The weather office says conditions should improve Thursday night.

In the meantime, people are being advised to spend less time outside and to reschedule outdoor activities.

There are also severe thunderstorm watches in place for parts of Big Lakes County including Driftpile, Joussard and Swan Hills and for the area from Edson and Whitecourt south to Mayerthorpe and Onoway.
