Wildfire news for Saturday

A wildfire that invovles a log deck has forced the closure of the Two Lakes Road 80 kilometres southwest of Grovedale. Photo supplied by Alberta Wildfire.

Fire watchers in the Grande Prairie Forest Area say crews are working on a wildfire located along the Two Lakes Road 80 kilometres southwest of Grovedale.

It is located near kilometre marker 2-121.

The fire involves a log deck and trees. No communities or structures are at risk. Fire watchers said Saturday evening that the fire is burning in a log deck abd producing a lot of heat and smoke.

Homes, parks and infrastructure ar enot threatening by the six hectare blaze.

Alberta Wildfire, MD of Greenview and Weyerhaeuser crews will fight the fire overnight.

The Two Lakes Road is closed in that area. The public is asked to stay away. Officials hope to have the road open Sunday afternoon.

The wildfire danger in the Grande Prairie Forest Area is rated high.

Kiskatinaw River fire

Officials say they continue to monitor the Kiskatinaw River fire located in the Kelly Lake area in the B.C. Peace.

The fire is still located seven kilometres from the Alberta boundary and is estimated at 4554 hectares in size.

The County of Grande Prairie says an evacuation alert remains in place for those located between Township Roads 720 ad 732, west from Range Road 130 to the B.C border.

Rain

The forecast is calling for periods of rain on Saturday.

Some places may see five to 10 millimetres.

The rain is expected to end Saturday night.

Evacuation alert for Marten Beach

An evacuation alert first issued Friday night for the Hamlet of Marten Beach remains in place.

The MD of Lesser Slave River says people must be ready to leave with four hours notice.

An out of control wildfire is burning north of Marten Beach.

The Lesser Slave River Fire Department has added two crews to protect buildings in the community.

High Level Forest Area wildfires

Fire watchers in the High Level Forest Area say crews are still battling the Sousa Creek Wildfire.

The fire that has burned 25,000 hectares is now located 6.8 kilometres south of Chateh and 31 kilometres east of Rainbow Lake. Chateh has been evacuated.

Another out of control fire about 33 kilometres west of Tall Cree First Nation South has burned over 750 hectares.

Growth of this fire slowed when it burned into an area that had already burned 10 years ago.

Crews are also fighting a 395 hectare fire located about 20 kilometres east of the Tompkins Landing ( La Crete) Ferry.

The La Crete and Fort Vermilion Fire Departments are helping Alberta wildfire with structural protection.
