AHS warning of possible measles exposures in three communities

Alberta Health Services is issuing public alerts after possible measles exposures in three Peace Country communities.

This includes the Real Canadian Superstore in Grande Prairie on May 24 between 1 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.; the McDonalds on 100 Street between 9 p.m. and midnight on May 25; the Cobblestone Starbucks from 3 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. on May 29 and the Wok Box on 104A Avenue on May 29 from 3:30 p.m. until 6:10 P.M.

There were also three possible exposures at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Patient Registration area. The first was on May 25 from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. on May 26, then again on May 26 at 7 p.m. until May 27 at 9 a.m. and May 28 at 7 p.m. until May 29 at 9 a.m.

There was also a possible exposure at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Emergency Department between 6:30 p.m. on May 27 and 3 a.m. on May 28.

AHS says there may have also been a possible exposure at the La Crete Advanced Ambulatory Care Centre from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on May 25.

There have also been additional possible exposure times in Fort Vermilion’s St. Theresa General Hospital Emergency Department.

Those include May 23 from 10:30 a.m. until 3:21 p.m.; May 24 from 6:35 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. and May 27 from 3:30 p.m. until 7:26 p.m.

Symptoms of measles include a fever, cough, red eyes, a runny nose and a rash that appears three days to a week after the fever starts.

Anyone who has symptoms is asked to call the measles hotline at 1-844-944-3434 before seeking medical attention.

AHS issued a previous alert for the Fort Vermilion hospital for May 27 between 11:30 a.m. and 3:50 p.m.
