UPDATE: Evacuation order expanded for County residents near Kiskatinaw Wild Fire

UPDATE June 6, 9:12 p.m: The evacuation order has been expanded to include everyone north of township road 700 to 740, east of the British Columbia/Alberta border to Range Road 130.

Anyone living in the evacuation order area needs to evacuate immediately and report to the reception centre at the Hythe Community Library.

The Reception Centre will remain open until midnight tonight and from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 pm. daily until further notice.

Bring important documents, medication, medical devices, and prepare to be away from your home for 7 days. If you need help evacuating, contact the Call Centre at 780-830-5002.

UPDATE June 6, 3:14 p.m.: The evacuation alert area has been expanded to include Township Road 710 to Township Road 700 and east of the B.C. boundary to Range Road 130.

ORIGNIAL: The Grande Prairie Forest Area wildfire information office says spot fires from the Kiskatinaw River fire in the B.C. Peace are now burning in Alberta.

Fire watchers say these are small fires started by embers.

The blaze is now estimated at over 11,900 hectares in size.

The County of Grande Prairie says an evacuation order remains in place for the area bordered by Township Roads 710 and 740 and Range Road 130 to the BC boundary.

An evacuation alert is in place for all residents along Township Road 710 between Range Roads 124 and 130 and north along the border to Highway 43.

The wildfire danger is rated as extreme. A fire ban remains in place.

The county also says the fire means the Demmitt Transfer Station will be closed until further notice.

People can use the Elmworth or West Grande Prairie stations or the Clairmont Centre for recycling and Waste Management instead.
