The MD of Greenview has issued an evacuation order due to an out of control wildfire (GWF040), located about 81 km south of Grande Prairie and 19 km east of Highway 40.

The evacuation order is in effect for everyone between the Smoky River and the Forestry Trunk Road, along all points accessed from the Forestry Trunk Road from km 70 to km 126.

The Forestry Trunk Road is closed from the Canfor Road (km 70), on the north to the Simonette Forestry Tower (km 126).

The wildfire is currently estimated at 325 hectares in size, with Alberta Wildfire crews and aircraft on scene. The blaze is burning towards the Forestry Trunk Road.

If you are in the affected area, evacuate immediately. Gather pets, important documents and medication, enough food, water and supplies for at least 3 days, and leave now.

Alberta Wildfire says “this is a dynamic situation”, and to please refer to the latest road closure information on the MD of Greenview’s website and Facebook.
