Dave Cunningham 78, passed away on Friday June 6, 2025 leaving behind a life filled with family, friends, hard work, a deep appreciation for the simple joys, and meaningful connections.
Born and raised on the family home and farm that he loved, Dave spent his entire life rooted in the place that shaped him. He attended Beaverlodge High School and worked at Smith’s Tire Shop (Tiresmith). Over the years he drove school bus, attended Fairview College, worked construction in both Alberta and British Columbia. He worked seismic in British Columbia and the Yukon. He bought the family home and farm and stocked it with a few cows. He cared for his parents there until they passed. Dave met Barb Fisher and the rest is history. He then became owner/operator of his own grader company until his retirement.
Dave’s patience, knowledge and genuine spirit set him apart. He had a way of making people fell heard, valued and supported – not through grand gestures, but through the steady presence he provided. Whether offering wisdom over a quiet cup of coffee or lending his expertise in mechanics, he brought warm warmth to every interaction, his sincerity unmistakable.
His knowledge seemed endless, his patience unwavering, and his friendships deep and lasting – a testament to the kind of man he was. The bonds he built weren’t fleeting; they were rooted in trust, in shared laughter, in years of quiet understanding. Dave was a rare kind of person – one who’s presence left a lasting imprint on the hearts of those fortunate enough to know him.
Dave is mourned by his spouse Barb Fisher, his children, Brock Fisher (Ang) and Roberta (Devin) Eklund; His cherished Grandchildren, Rylan, Bradlee & Rowdy Fisher, Drayk & Eli Eklund. His sibling Eunice Lathorp, along with numerous cousins, Nieces and Nephews, will forever cherish the memories and lessons he shared. Dave’s warmth extended far beyond his family – hi countless friends, built over decades of coffee chats, long drives and quiet conversations, will miss him deeply.
Dave is predeceased by his parents; Bert and Esther Cunningham, Brothers; Ralph and Eugene Cunningham and many cousins and good friends.
A celebration of life will be held at Albright Hall on June 14, 2025 at 2 pm. His family and friends will gather to celebrate his remarkable life, share stories, and honor the life he left behind. Though he is no longer here, his spirit will live on in the land he loved the lessons he passed down, and the memories held close by those who were fortunate enough to know him.
