Homicide investigation underway in Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation

The Alberta RCMP Serious Crimes Branch has taken over a homicide investigation in Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation.

Valleyview RCMP say they responded to a call at 6:15 a.m. this morning (Sunday, June 22) at the Cree Nation.

Upon arrival, one person was found deceased.

At this time, RCMP believes this was an isolated incident; however, a heavy police presence will remain in Sturgeon Lake.

Residents are asked to avoid the “immediate area” and refrain from posting on social media for police and public safety.

In the release, Alberta RCMP said they “understand how situations such as this can make a community feel uneasy, but rest assured, your Alberta RCMP is working tirelessly to keep everyone safe.”

“We ask that the public remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or tips to the Valleyview RCMP or Crime Stoppers.”
