Triathlon to impact traffic and transit over weekend

Grande Prairie’s annual triathlon event returns this weekend.

The Grande Prairie Triathlon, formerly the Eastlink Centre Triathlon, will be taking place this Sunday, with different events allowing for athletes of any age to compete.

To accommodate the event, several roads will be closed:

  • North Knowledge Way closes at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 5

Starting at 5 a.m. on Sunday, July 6:

  • East Knowledge Way and the Design Works Centre parking lot.
  • 68 Avenue in both directions between west Knowledge Way and Poplar Drive.
  • 100 Street between 67 Avenue and 72 Avenue.
  • Kateri Drive at 68 Avenue.

Transit service will also be disrupted, with Routes 1, 2 and 5 being re-routed to accommodate the event.

The following stops are closed from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 6:

  • Route 1: Stops 118, 120, 124 and 2000
  • Route 2: Stops 224, 226, 228, 230, 234, 236, 238 and 2000
  • Route 5: Stops 534, 536, 540 and 2000

At Eastlink Centre; the aquatics area, West Fraser field house, and the dive tank will be closed for the event, while all other amenities will remain open for use.

The Triathlon goes Sunday, July 6.
