Grande Prairie youth in custody after June stabbing

Jul 7, 2025 | 12:40 PM

Grande Prairie RCMP say a city cab driver is now home and recovering after a stabbing incident at the end of June.

On June 28, at 2 a.m. RCMP received a call regarding a taxi driver who was stabbed in the stomach.

The driver was taken to a hospital with serious injuries but has since been released.

RCMP’s General Investigation Section (GIS) then took over the investigation and with help from other General Duty members, Forensic Identification Services, and a series of search warrants, identified and arrested a suspect.

A Grande Prairie youth had two charges laid against them; aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

They were brought before a justice of the peace and released on conditions, with a court date set for July 21.

In the release, Grande Prairie RCMP Corporal Rebecca Daly thanked the community “members who took the initial call and, thanks to their professionalism and attention to detail, were able to move the investigation forward efficiently.”

“Once again, your Alberta RCMP has shown that, thanks to our well-trained members, as well as our specialized units, we are able to quickly and efficiently resolve investigations, thus allowing us to keep our communities safe.”
