Dry conditions hurting crops

Just under 23 per cent of the crops in the Peace are in good to excellent condition, according to the June 30 crop report from Alberta Agriculture and AFSC.

The five-year average is 69.5 per cent, and the 10-year average is 66.9.

Across the province, 60.5 per cent of crops fall into the good or excellent categories.

The breakdown by crop in the Peace is 27.2 per cent for barley, 25.1 per cent for oats, 24.4 per cent for dry peas, 22.1 per cent for canola and 20.6 for spring wheat.

Most moisture ratings are in the good or fair range, with 21 per cent of surface and 16 per cent of sub-surface soil moisture rated poor.
