Wildfire hazard now very high in GPFA

Jul 9, 2025 | 3:26 PM

The wind and warm temperatures have pushed the wildfire hazard rating in the Grande Prairie Forest Area to very high.

People are asked to use extra caution if working or playing outside.

A fire located 50 kilometres southwest of Grande Prairie, 1.5 kilometres north of the Two Lakes Road, is still classified as out of control at three hectares in size.

Fire watchers say the wind is making this blaze more intense and leading to more smoke.

The Kiskatinaw River fire located along the Alberta-B.C boundary, is still being held at 26, 277 hectares.

The Hamelin Creek wildfire in Saddle Hills County is also being held. It has burned 5,557 hectares.

Moonshine Lake Provincial Park is open again, but some trails remain closed.
