July 8 report shows slight improvement for Peace crops

The July 8 crop report from Alberta Agriculture and AFSC says 23.6 per cent of the major crops in the Peace were in good or excellent condition as of that date.

That compares to 65 per cent for the entire province. It is also up a bit from the 22.6 per cent rating on June 30.

The breakdown by crop in good or excellent condition in the Peace was 28.8 per cent for barley, 26.9 per cent for oats, 25.9 per cent for dry peas, 22.8 per cent for spring wheat and 22.1 per cent for canola.

The report also says that around 25 per cent of the major crops in the Peace were in poor condition with close to 52 per cent rated fair.

Tame hay was rated 28 per cent poor, 53 per cent fair and 19 per cent good.

Sub-surface soil moisture was rated 15 per cent poor, 46 per cent fair, 37 per cent good and two per cent excellent.
