City of Grande Prairie celebrating Heritage Day in August

Jul 25, 2025 | 7:00 AM

We are one week away from the Heritage Day long weekend.

The City of Grande Prairie is gearing up for the annual event and will be holding various activities Saturday, August 2 at the Grande Prairie Museum Heritage Village.

The events will highlight local history and diverse culture in Grande Prairie through family-friendly activities:

  • Community and cultural booths.
  • Blacksmith demonstrations.
  • Ropemaking activity.
  • Old fashioned bingo.
  • Interactive Tub n’ Scrub laundry activity.
  • Old fashioned games and carnival games, including can toss, shooting gallery and top taffel.
  • PARDS petting zoo.
  • HAM (amateur) radio demonstrations. HAM radios were used as a communication tool back in the 20th century for people to talk across the world before cell phones were created.
  • Drumming circle performance from a local Indigenous group.
  • Food vendors with cultural food dishes.

Muskoseepi Park will serve as the hub for Heritage Day activities, with additional festivities taking place including the Bites around the World Event and the Hindu Chariot Festival.

Heritage Day is a meaningful opportunity to honour the traditions, stories and histories that have shaped Grande Prairie over time. I invite everyone to take part in the festivities, connect with each another and celebrate the rich heritage that defines our community. Jackie Clayton, Mayor of the City of Grande Prairie

Anyone interested in registering for a cultural booth has until 11:59 p.m. July 28.

You can keep up with the latest news and information about Heritage Day on the City’s page.
