Crop conditions deteriorating says latest crop report

Jul 28, 2025 | 1:54 PM

The July 22 crop report from the province and AFSC says 21.7 per cent of the crops in the Peace were in good or excellent condition as of that date.

That is down from 27.6 per cent in the July 15 report

The five-year average for the same time of year is 53.3. per cent. The 10-year average is 58.1 per cent.

The report says major crops are under stress from dry conditions.

Besides drought concerns, grasshoppers are also becoming a worry for some producers. The report says this is “adding pressure to already stressed crops.”

The dry weather means pasture and hay growth are also concerns.

The report adds that 22 and 27 per cent of surface and subsurface soil moisture is in good to excellent condition, well below the five year average of 62 per cent.
