GPFA wildfire danger level remains high

The wildfire danger level in the Grande Prairie Forest Area currently sits at high.

Despite recent rainfall in some areas of the GPFA, Alberta Wildfire says warm temperatures have increased the wildfire danger.

They warn residents that current conditions can lead to fast-moving wildfires, so people should use caution.

Currently in the GPFA, firefighters are dealing with three blazes;

The Kiskatinaw River Wildfire, which is being held.
GWF093, listed as being held at four hectares in size and was caused by lightning.
GWF094, a small blaze 53 km south of Grande Prairie that was reported on Tuesday evening (August 5), and was already extinguished; the cause of that blaze was also determined to be lightning hitting a tree.

Residents are being reminded that a fire advisory also remains in effect, and if you see a wildfire, report it by calling 310-FIRE.

Since January 1, there have been 94 wildfires in the Grande Prairie Forest Area, burning a total of 5,884 hectares
