Cold Christmas expected in the Peace

Dec 22, 2017 | 11:00 AM

It will be a White Christmas in the Peace.

The Weather Network Meteorologist Michael Carter says it will also be cold.

“The Arctic air really starts pouring in for Christmas Eve and beyond, so we’re going to have an extended period (of cold). Between Christmas Day and New Year’s, we won’t pop up above -18, -19 the entire period. In the over-nights, of course, those temperatures are going to be much colder than that.”

He adds the cold will stay for awhile.

“This looks like a pretty prolonged, protracted cold outbreak. We’re certainly going to be below seasonal into the first week of the new year and, most likely, even beyond that. We may see this cold pattern relax a little bit later into January, but the cold is certainly going to be here to stay for a little while, it’s going to feel very, very much like winter as we close out 2017.”

Carter says not to expect much snow.

“There’s lots of sun in the forecast. If you take a look at our forecast, you’ll see a lot of sun, but don’t be fooled because it is the temperatures that are really going to be the most impactful and you need to pay the most attention over the holiday and then in the week beyond.”

Carter says a White Christmas should be a guarantee in the Peace, given that there is snow on the ground and colder weather in the forecast.
