Grande Prairie Forest Area Wildfire rating returns to high

Aug 25, 2025 | 4:07 PM

With a long-duration heat event in effect, the Grande Prairie Forest Area Wildfire rating has returned to High.

Warmer temperatures and winds have once again increased the danger level, and current conditions could lead to fast-moving wildfires.

Alberta Wildfire is encouraging everyone to do their part to reduce wildfires, by having farmers regularly inspect their machinery and remove debris, campers keep their fires small and never unattended, and off-highway vehicle drivers stop frequently to clear debris from their machines.

Of the six fires currently burning in the Grande Prairie Forest Area, four are listed as under control, while the other two, including the Kiskatinaw River Wildfire, are listed as being held.
