Fire Restriction

City & County of Grande Prairie implement a fire restriction

Aug 28, 2025 | 2:20 PM

The fire advisories issued for both the County and City of Grande Prairie have been upgraded to a restriction.

Both municipalities credited the current heat wave for creating dry conditions that are ideal for a wildfire.

Now, with this restriction, no new permits will be issued, and a number of burning practices are prohibited:

  • Open burning of any kind
  • Burn barrels
  • Residential fire pits without a spark arrestor or screen
  • Smudge fires
  • Safe wood campfires on public lands
  • Fireworks not permitted

However, residential fire pits, tiki torches, and gas-powered cooking devices are allowed; In the County, they are also allowing the use of approved burn barrels and industrial bins, within the proper enclosures.

These restrictions will remain in effect until conditions improve.
