Very high wildfire danger level & fire restriction remain in the GPFA

Sep 3, 2025 | 1:34 PM

With current hot and dry conditions, the wildfire danger rating for the GPFA remains very high.

A fire advisory does remain in effect for the Grande Prairie Forest Area, and Alberta Wildfire asks residents to be extra cautious outdoors, especially if you are farming or using an off-highway vehicle, as a blaze can easily ignite.

For both ATVs and agricultural equipment, residents are asked to clean their machines regularly and take extra precautions; for farmers, that includes keeping a fire extinguisher on hand.

At this time, only one fire continues to burn in the GPFA, the Kiskatinaw River Wildfire, which triggered evacuations earlier in the summer.

Anyone who sees a wildfire in the GPFA is asked to report it by calling 310-FIRE (3473).

An air quality warning also remains in effect for the peace region, as smoke from forest fires in NWT continues to make its way south.
