Storm, Mighty Peace Football & Northern Fitness Expo

Sep 5, 2025 | 12:42 PM

Local Hockey:

The Grande Prairie Storm are back in action on Sunday September 7, as they continue pre-season play with Drayton Valley on the road.

They will then play another pair of exhibition games against the Fort McMurray Oil Barons before kicking off the season on Friday September 19, at Bonnett’s Energy Centre with a rematch of the north final, as they take on the Whitecourt Wolverines.

Last year, the Storm swept the Wolverines to advance to the AJHL final.

The Wembley Minor Hockey Association is currently looking for refs for this upcoming hockey season.

Anyone interested is invited to sign up for the Referee Course set for September 29 at the Fluid Pro Arena.

Wembley Minor Hockey encourages those “who want to make a real impact in the community” to sign up.

Mighty Peace Football:

Only one game will take place this weekend in the Mighty Peace Football League as the GP Phoenix hits the road Saturday September 6, and take on the Cold Lake Royals.

Fitness Expo:

On Sunday September 7, Grande Prairie will host the Northern Fitness Expo.

Starting at 11 a.m., vendors, food trucks, and friendly fitness challenges will be open to all visitors, with fitness competitions set to kick off at 2:30 p.m. on the main stage.

BPM Fitness Co. owner Grey Patino says, “whether you’re competing, spectating, or just stopping by for great food and fun, the Northern Fitness Expo will be a great day for athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and the community overall.”

The Expo will take place at 11205 100 Street from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
