Town of Peace River warning of active bears

Sep 9, 2025 | 11:17 AM

The Town of Peace River is warning the public to be wary of active bears in the area.

Over the last two weeks, Alberta Fish and Wildlife have captured and relocated five black bears found in the areas of Lower and Upper West Peace, the Pines, Saddleback and Shaftesbury.

The Town says bears naturally travel through the Peace River valley and end up passing through the community, and can sometimes become habituated to non-natural food sources like pet food and garbage.

They are advising you to do your part to prevent bears from becoming habituated by keeping your garbage secure inside until morning pick-up, picking apples and fruit trees regularly.

Capture efforts are currently underway in the Saddleback area.
