NWJHL regular season starting, Storm exhibition games finishing, curling, high school football, auto racing, Wolves soccer, all on this weekend

NWJHL

The NWJHL regular season starts Friday with three games.

The County Wheat Kings will be in Sexsmith, Dawson Creek visits Fairview and Fort St. John travels to Peace River.

Saturday, Fort St. John will be in Fairview, Sexsmith at the Wheat Kings and Dawson Creek in Peace River.

All those games start at 8 p.m.

Beaverlodge will be in La Crete for a 7 p.m. face-off on Saturday and again for a 1:30 p.m. puck drop on Sunday.

Storm

The Storm and Fort McMurray will play two exhibition games in Slave Lake this weekend to close out pre-season play for both teams.

Game times are Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m.

The Storm will open the regular season at home Sept. 19 versus Whitecourt.

Curling

Kayla Skrlik’s team is playing at the Saville Grand Prix in Edmonton this weekend.

They opened with 9-2 win over Holly Hafeli from Kamloops in Draw 1 Friday morning.

Team Skrlik will play the Yuina Miura team from Japan in Draw 3 Friday at 7 p.m

Football

In the Mighty Peace Football League Friday, the GP Phoenix visit Fort McMurray.

Saturday, St. Joe’s will play Jasper Place in an exhibition game in Edmonton.

Auto Racing

The Hythe Motor Speedway will host the Wescar Late Model 150 Special Event Saturday.

Racing starts at 3 p.m.

Wolves Soccer

The Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves soccer teams will host Portage College from Lac La Biche in their home openers this weekend.

The women’s games start at 2 p.m. Saturday and noon on Sunday.

The men’s games are set for 4:15 Saturday and 2:15 p.m. on Sunday.

The women’s team had a tie and a loss on the road to open the season last weekend. The men opened with two losses.
