Wildfire hazard rated extreme in the Grande Prairie Forest Area
Dry, windy conditions have lifted the wildfire hazard level to extreme in the Grande Prairie Forest Area.
A fire restriction is in place.
Firewatchers say safe wood campfires on private land are still allowed, but outdoor wood fires on public land, any other burning on private land and fireworks and exploding targets are all prohibited.
Hunters are being reminded that campfires are not allowed in what officials call “random backcountry camping areas” but campfires in fire rings on private land are still allowed.
