Storm
The Grande Prairie Storm will kick off the 2025-26 season at home Friday night.
They will host Whitecourt. Face-off is 7 p.m.
The Storm are coming off a successful 2024-25 campaign that saw them make it to the Alberta Junior Hockey League final and play in the Centennial Cup.
There will be a Fan Fest that will run from 5-6:30 p.m. Friday in front of the Bonnetts Energy Centre.
Brad Sims will be performing.
NWJHL
In the Northwest Junior Hockey league Friday, Dawson Creek will visit the County Wheat Kings, Peace River will be in Fairview and Fort St. John travels to in Beaverlodge.
Saturday, Dawson Creek is in Beaverlodge and the Wheat Kings are in Peace River.
All those games start at 8 p.m.
Sexsmith will be in La Crete for a 7 p.m. face-off Saturday and a 1:30 p.m. face-off on Sunday.
Other Sports
The Grande Prairie Curling Centre will host its annual general meeting and awards night Saturday. Start time will be 6 p.m.
There is one game in the Mighty Peace Football League Friday. The Peace Wapiti Academy Titans tangle with the GP Phoenix. Kick-off at 6 p.m. at CKC Field.
The Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves soccer teams visit Lakeland College Saturday and Sunday. Game times are noon and 2:15 p.m. both days, starting with the women’s game both days. The cross country runners will race in Lethbridge on Saturday.
Grande Prairie Gymnastics will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its facility on Saturday. It will go from 2-7 p.m. at the gymnastics place next to the Eastlink Centre. Anyone who wants to come is welcome. Organizers say there will be games and prizes, along with gymnastics.
Registration for the Grande Prairie Piranhas I Can Swim! program opens Sunday at 9 a.m. This is for kids aged 4-10, beginners to advanced swimmers. Classes run weekly. Anyone wanting more information can check the Piranhas social media.
