Candidate profile: Kristopher Arcand

Kristopher Arcand is one of the candidates running to be mayor of Grande Prairie in the October 20 municipal election.

What has inspired you to run for mayor in the Oct. 20, 2025, municipal election?

It may sound a little cheesy, but my biggest inspiration is my family. I want Grande Prairie to be a city that is safe, welcoming, and where residents truly feel heard. My goal is to foster a council that is open and transparent with the community. I also want to see our city grow in a sustainable way by setting goals that follow the SMART model (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound), and by avoiding unrealistic promises I cannot keep.

What skills or experience do you have that you feel would make you a good fit for the role?

As a local business owner employing about 30 residents, I have extensive experience in leadership, decision-making, and building strong teams. These skills have taught me the importance of collaboration, accountability, and problem-solving. I will bring that same approach to council—creating a respectful, solutions-focused atmosphere and working alongside residents, community organizations, and foundations to ensure the needs of Grande Prairie are met.

What do you feel are the key or main election issues in your community and what are the issues of priority for you?

Some of the key issues I see in this election include the transition to our new local police service, taxes, infrastructure, snow removal, the Alberta separatist movement, transportation, and homelessness. All of these are important, but what matters most is addressing the issues residents bring forward. My commitment is to approach each concern with practical, SMART solutions that focus on what we can realistically achieve together as a community.

In addition, I’ll be hosting a series of “Meet Your Candidate” events leading up to the election. The first will be on September 23rd, 8–10 PM at 92 Bev Co. (18+ event), and the next will be on September 27th, 11 AM–1 PM at Muskoseepi Park (all ages welcome). These are great opportunities to connect, ask questions, and share ideas for our city’s future.
