ASBA Friends of Education Award presented to GP RCMP Corporal

Grande Prairie Public School Division is congratulating a local RCMP Corporal for winning an award recognizing people dedicated to enhancing education.

Corporal Gavin Ool is the recipient of the Zone 1 Alberta School Boards Association’s 2025 Friend of Education Award for work as program lead of the Grande Prairie RCMP School Resource Officer program.

“We are proud to recognize Cpl. Ool for his leadership and the difference he continues to make for students and families across our division,” says Sandy McDonald, Grande Prairie Public School Division Superintendent. “This award reflects the very best of our partnership and highlights the impact of a strong School Resource Officer program. GPPSD is congratulating Corporal Ool on this achievement and thanking him for his commitment to helping every student succeed.”

“He is dedicated to supporting youth and is intentional about building meaningful relationships with students, particularly in our high schools,” adds Ray Buziak, Grande Prairie Public School Division Board Trustee. “He is known by name in our schools because of his daily efforts to connect with young people. He has also developed strong partnerships with administrators, staff, and parents, making him a trusted and valued resource in education.”

The award recognizes individuals or organizations that demonstrate a strong commitment to enhancing education and building partnerships that impact students, families and communities.
