Size increase for some school and playground signs in the city
You may start to notice larger school and playground signs in a handful of areas of the city.
Transportation and Safety Engineering Supervisor Robin Hutchinson says his department was asked to increase the visibility of the zones and raise awareness for pedestrians as well as drivers.
“We have looked at the signs and we feel improvements can be made by moving the sign. If we can’t move the sign, we will look at using a larger sign,” says Hutchinson.
The signs that would be installed are 177 per cent larger than the regular ones at 80-centimetres by 80-centimetres. The standard signs are 60-centimetres by 60-centimetres. A sign that is 225 per cent larger than the standard is expected to be put up in the Avondale Neighbourhood Park.
